Description

Owned by [Maine Coast Heritage Trust](http://www.mcht.org/), the 700-acre [Boot Head Preserve](https://mcht.org/preserves/boot-head), is open for low-impact day use and includes roughly 2-miles of trails looping through forested sections, bogs, and wetland areas. Fires are not permitted on the property. Landing may be possible under benign conditions on the substantial cobble beach in Rum Cove, but the landing has no trail access or means of egress. The hull of a wrecked boat tossed high on the berm is indicative of the exposure at this location. Unless there is an eastern wind or swell, the gravel beach in Boot Cove may offer a better option for landing. Here, a trail from the southern part of the beach leads to a parking area on Boot Cove Road around two-thirds of a mile from the beach. The northern two-thirds of a the beach is privately owned - please respect the privacy of these neighbors.
