Description
Also known as Little Turnip Island or Little Rye Island, this small island east of Leadbetter Narrows sits in the northern end of Hurricane Sound. New to the trail in 2021, Turnip provides small parties an additional option for exploration on the southwest side of Vinalhaven. This island is best accessed via gently sloping ledges on the western side. A small campsite can be found in a clearing mid-way down the west side.
The [Hurricane Island Outward Bound School](https://www.hiobs.org/) owns this island and uses it occasionally for programming. If you observe a HIOBS group or a student on solo, please do not land.

Up to 4 registered campers. Camping capacity 4 people.
Open fires are not permitted. Fires not allowed.
Pets allowed under strict owner control; leash pets or leave them at home to protect visitors and wildlife. Pack out all solid pet waste.
