Description

**Anchorage:** Anchor on the southeast side of the island. If more protection is needed, try the Isle Au Haut Thorofare.

Flake Island sits just west of the northern tip of Isle au Haut between Birch Point and Lookout Point at the entrance to Laundry Cove. It consists of two islands connected by a bar that is covered at high tide. Far from the mainland yet close to the Isle au Haut Thorofare, Flake is a great place to picnic or relax on the outskirts of Merchant Row.

The two islands that constitute Flake are quite distinct. The eastern island is smaller and has an inviting sand beach on the south side facing Isle au Haut. This provides a good place to land at just about any tide. The upland area includes a small cluster of trees with the remnants of an old campsite in the middle. The western island is larger and features a mix of trees and meadow. The landing here is on cobbles but it is still quite approachable given the shelter provided by Isle au Haut.

The owners simply ask visitors to be respectful and leave the island the way they found it. Please enjoy access to Flake while adhering to all low-impact recreation guidelines and practices.
