Description

One of the largest undeveloped islands on the eastern seaboard, Marshall lies southwest of Swans Island in outer Jericho Bay. Its 7.1 miles of shoreline include bold headlands, coves, and sand and cobble beaches. The island is forested predominately with spruce and occasional hardwoods, and contains a network of linked wetlands throughout. Marshall is home to many resident songbirds and is utilized by large flocks of migrating bird species. In addition to migratory visitors, bald eagles have nested on the south end of the island near Boxam Cove.

Public use of Marshall tends to be heavy during prime summer days. In particular, the 400-foot fine sand beach in Sand Cove has long been a popular picnicking destination. There are three designated campsites scattered across the island where camping is permitted. Camping is not allowed on the beach at Sand Cove.

Marshall also features a few interconnected loop trails. The 3.9 mile East Loop Trail is marked by yellow blazes and the 1.6 mile South Loop Trail is marked by blue blazes. For detailed information about the island including the trail network, visit MCHT's [Marshall Island Preserve](mcht.org/preserve/marshall-island/) page.

Please note that there is a long-term lease site on the island located on lower head, southeast of Boxam Cove. Visitors are asked to respect the privacy of these neighbors.
