Description

Easily accessible from the Portland area, Crow makes for a convenient day trip or overnight destination. Because of its relatively small size and popularity, however, you are unlikely to find much privacy here, especially on a summer weekend. Unlike most state-owned islands, which do not have buildings, Crow has a small cottage located in the middle of the island. The cottage provides a welcome refuge from storms. If you visit the cottage, please close up after you leave. Residents of Great Chebeague often picnic here; their traditional use of the island and desire for privacy should be respected.

Crow is heavily used during the high season and browntail moth caterpillars (which may cause a rash or respiratory problems) have been reported in the past. Camping is available inside the cottage or on the grassy patches surrounding it, or by the large oak trees just above the northeast-facing beach.
Eiders and osprey have been found nesting on the island in recent years. To avoid disturbing them during nesting season please do not visit Crow until July 1.
