Description
Trott Island is the second largest island in this group at 43 acres. It is covered with spruce and fir trees, and there are many nice views of the neighboring islands and the open ocean. There are three campsites, each accessible from small beaches. The Kennebunkport Conservation Trust maintains a trail that winds from Pine Grove through the mature evergreen forests to the south side of the island opposite Goat Island and back along the beach.
The Northwest Point campsite is perched among trees above a small beach. The East Point campsite is located in the grass above the small cobble beach opposite Cape Island. Pine Grove campsite is located back in the woods above the East Point beach. Please remember to carry off all evidence of your visit, including human waste, and kindle fires only in established fire rings.
The entire archipelago drains at low tide, leaving a small channel between Cape Island and Stage Island to access Stage Island harbor, and a tight passage past the Goat Island Light up to the town pier within Cape Porpoise Harbor. In order to remain clear of the Cape Porpoise Harbor channel that local fishing boats must use, recreational boaters are encouraged to anchor in the Stage Harbor area. When anchoring, be aware of the shoal area and unmarked large rock (invisible at all but low tides) just off the NE side of Trott Island-always check water depths carefully!
