Located just off the west side of French Island in upper Casco Bay, this 2-acre preserve is owned by the Freeport Conservation Trust. The wooded interior is thickly vegetated and largely inaccessible, but the cobbled shoreline makes a lovely day stop. It is an idyllic picnic location, and a good day use alternative to the often crowded Goslings to the east.
Boaters should be mindful of the ledges that extend from the northeast tip of French Island, and a rocky area to the south of Little French. There is a nice sandy beach on the southeast side of the island that makes for a good landing spot for small boats.
Nesting ospreys have been reported on Little French. To protect the osprey during nesting season, please refrain from visiting before July 1.
