Description
The southernmost of two small islands at the entrance to Quahog Bay, Raspberry Island offers a peaceful escape just a short distance from Bethel Point boat ramp and Harpswell Heritage Land Trust's [Little Yarmouth Island](https://hhltmaine.org/get-outdoors/little-yarmouth-island-preserve/). Although not as sheltered, this island is a good alternative to popular Little Snow Island just up the bay.
There are good landing spots at both the northeast and northwest sides of the island, though at low tide a bar prevents access to the northeast side from the north. The northwest landing offers a cozy shoreside campsite and an additional interior campsite can be found tucked into the trees a short way down a path. The path continues past the campsite to the ledges on the south end.
Raspberry Island is heavily vegetated, with a mix of young pines and mature trees, providing protection from the prevailing SW winds. While the island's name might suggest a bounty of raspberries, the shape of the island is the inspiration behind the name. Small woodland animals may make an appearance, so be sure to store your food securely. Although poison ivy is found on the southern end of the island, campers can avoid it by sticking to the north end or the southern ledges, which offer a great view spot for sunset.
