Description
Little Bare is located north of Beal Island and east of Bareneck Island, due west of the buoy N2 in Hockomock Bay. Visitors to Little Bare are treated to a marvelous view of the boiling, ever-changing tidal currents of Lower Hell Gate. The best approach to the island is from the southwest corner, out of the channel and current. You will find a snug campsite with enough room for one small tent near a downed tree on the southern end. Bayberry and other brush surrounds the site. A faint footpath leads to the site from the east side.
The rocky ridges on the northern half of the island are covered with fragile lichens and mosses that are easily damaged by footfall. Please restrict your activities to the southern end of the island.
