Description

Strawberry Island sits in the northern part of Muscongus Bay at the southeast end of Hockomock Channel. It is the middle of three small islands strung in a north-south line off the southwest side of Bremen Long Island. The island just to the north, which is frequently mistaken for Strawberry, is privately owned and not on the Trail.

The island has extensive ledges that are exposed on most sides at low tide and is covered in a thick cover of heavy brush with a few trees. Best access is on the northwest side, where a short path leads to a grassy area formerly occupied by a tent platform that had been built on the foundation of a cabin. The cabin and platform have since been removed and the site has been allowed to re-naturalize.

Strawberry is a less-crowded alternative to nearby Crow Island. There is frequent lobster boat traffic in the waters just to the west of the island.
