Description

Bens Island is a lovely 14-acre wooded island on the west side of Dutch Neck. It is connected to the mainland by a wildlife-rich isthmus. The island is located in the eastern branch of the protected bay known as Broad Cove and affords a very pleasant woodland and tidal marsh experience.

Bens Island was acquired in 2018 by the Medomak Valley Land Trust, now [Midcoast Conservancy](https://www.midcoastconservancy.org/), to protect its scenic, ecological and recreational values in perpetuity. The island is open for respectful day use. Please plan your trip according to the tides as access is restricted at low water. The best landing is on the grassy area on the western shore, just north of a prominent rock outcropping. Visitors are encouraged to concentrate activity on the shoreline to avoid exacerbating naturally occurring bank erosion.
