Description
Havener Ledge (pronounced Hayv-ner) is a very pleasant small island located in the narrows of the Medomak River, just to the south of Dutch Neck. The island is just north of a pair of buoys used to navigate the narrows. Strong tidal currents flow through the narrows to the south of the island, sometimes completely submerging one or both buoys.
The bedrock on Havener Ledge rises steeply to form a moderately high and rugged island. The vegetation is mostly brushy with a mix of spruce and other evergreens on the north side and oak and other deciduous trees on the south. The best landings are at the shell beach at the south end or on the loose rock shelf on the southeast side. Please take care not to erode the loose banking, and be aware of extensive poison ivy on the steep banks. Access the campsite by a rope pull on the east side by an old oak tree. There is room for one small tent at the campsite near the base of a large, high rock.
