Description
Ram consists of two sister islets near the head of Hurricane Sound. The slightly larger eastern islet has steep and smooth granite sides and a thick patch of spruce forest on top. This main islet has a deep water landing area at the northern tip. From the bar connecting the islets, a short path leads to a gorgeous, sheltered camping area at the center of the island. The islet to the southwest is connected at low tide and is also open to visitor use, but please restrict camping activity to the main islet.
The surrounding bay is protected with some shallow spots at low tide. Note: the Vinalhaven Ferry passes through Laireys Narrow a half mile south of Ram Island; take caution while exploring these waters.
