Description
Burnt Island is a public resource owned by the Town of North Haven under the jurisdiction of the Mullins Head Park Commission and managed in conjunction with the North Haven Conservation Partners. The island is a great place to picnic and explore, with several pocket coves and gravel beaches that provide suitable landing options for small boats. Larger boats can anchor near the southwest point and utilize the dinghy dock. At low tide Burnt is accessible by foot from Indian Point. A series of walking trails rim the island and extend into the interior.
Burnt is open for day use only. A privy constructed in 2022 can be found by following a trail to the north just past the dock. Fires are not allowed, and pets should be kept on a leash and with the owner at all times. Public access to Burnt is protected by a conservation easement held by the [North Haven Conservation Partners](http://www.northhavenconservation.org).
