Description
This lovely wooded island in the north part of East Penobscot Bay is connected by a bar to an eagle nesting island to the west. Continued access to East Barred Island depends upon recreational visitors staying away from the nesting habitat on West Barred Island, especially from April to late August.
As there are several Barred Islands in this area, take note that these Barreds are northwest of Beach Island and northeast of Colt Head (not to be confused with the Barred Islands between Butter Island and Great Spruce Head).
The campsite is best accessed from the rocks on the southern tip of the island. A grassy clearing provides several camping opportunities. Natural erosion is occurring on the bank closest to the bar so please concentrate use on the rocks and take care not to cause further erosion.
