Description

This small island offers a pleasant lunch stop while exploring the waters around Isle au Haut. Located in a ledgy area off of the northwestern tip of York Island (between York Island and Isle au Haut), Doliver is composed of coarse grass, low shrubs and rough, irregular rock. It has a rough, barren feel but visitors will find it is a peaceful and relaxing place to visit that affords beautiful views of the surrounding waters.

The best landing is on the rocky, southeast-facing beach, but beware of the many reefs that guard the island on all sides. As Doliver resembles many of the seabird nesting islands that dot the coast of Maine, we are particularly interested in watching for signs of nesting activity on the island. Please report any evidence of nesting bird activity to the MITA office.

A possible camping location on Doliver is marked by a small cairn on the southeast side amidst some larger rocks. Visitors should note that all of the islands surrounding Doliver are privately owned and not open to access.
