Description

Shaped like an amoeba with several fingers pointing north, Steves is a relatively small and thickly forested island featuring some very pleasant coves and white shell beaches. There is a large tide pool in the granite bedrock on the southwest side of the island.

Steves is a popular spot for recreational boaters and sees steady overnight and day use throughout the summer. There are several campsites on the island accessible from the northeast, west and south sides. If approaching from the northeast, watch for a large submerged rock.

Each campsite is well suited for an individual tent, affording separate parties a small degree of privacy. However, if a group is using the island, all sites may be filled.

Like neighboring Hells Half Acre, Steves serves as a popular first or last night island on a multi day trip. If it is occupied when you arrive, consider nearby Rock, Harbor (south across the open channel), Weir (to the west), or Wheat.

Several trees near the campsites wear the unsightly scars of prior limbing. Please refrain from cutting tree limbs on the islands.
