Description

Tucked away in inner Bass Harbor beyond the mooring fields and commercial docks is Sawyers Island, a 2-acre preserve owned by the [Town of Tremont](https://www.tremont.maine.gov/). Sawyers was designated for conservation in 2006 along with several acres of shorefront along Seal Cove to mitigate for the loss of tidal flats when Bass Harbor was dredged for navigational improvement. The island is open for respectful use including overnight camping wherever practical in the interior.

Sawyers is most easily accessed from the south or east coves formed by the bar connecting the island to a southeastern ledge. The area around the island flats out at the lower third of the tide so be sure to plan your arrival and departure accordingly.
