Description
Sitting in the southwest part of Gouldsboro Bay just off Long Mill Cove, Dry Island is low-lying and covered with grasses and dense briars. The highest point on Dry is not more than several feet above the highest tide level, though wash-overs are rare due to the protected waters of Gouldsboro Bay. The island is in clear view of a number of houses on the shore to the northwest.
As the only usable public island between Schoodic Point and Petit Manan, Dry provides an opportunity to picnic or set up camp in adverse conditions. Best boat access may be on the southwest side. At low tide there are multiple exposed ledges, and access requires traversing rockweed-covered boulders and granite ledges for a considerable distance. Camp wherever practical on the highest portions of the island.
