Description
Bois Bubert is a huge island located just to the east of Petit Manan Point. Nearly 90 percent of the island is part of the [Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge](https://www.fws.gov/refuge/maine_coastal_islands/). The remainder of the island is privately owned and contains several private residences.
Bois Bubert is a wonderful island to explore, but please do not disturb the natural environment. Bois Bubert and Petit Manan Point are important areas for breeding birds. The island is open for day use and for low-impact overnight camping. Permission to camp here must be obtained in advance from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service office (email teressa_cultrera@fws.gov for reservations). The grassy camping area is just inland of the southeast end of the gravel storm berm. Seal Cove makes for a reasonably good anchorage for large cruising vessels, however, this area can be very exposed to swells from the south and east. Seal Cove ledge is a popular haul out spot for harbor seals.
Please camp only in the designated camping area, which is the northeast-facing cove on the eastern shore. There is a MITA sign and logbook marking the campsite. Please, no fires.
