Description
The owners of this beautiful site on the Machias River have graciously offered their property as an alternate launching area to the busy Machiasport Landing. This launching area is suitable for kayaks. Spanning over 30 acres of fields and mixed woods and including Sanborne Marsh, Pot Head, and part of Pettegrow Cove, the site is easy and safe to access at high water. The current through the narrows runs 2-4 knots at maximum ebb, and the landing can be easily used within two hours of high tide. Visitors are welcome to leave a vehicle alongside the driveway away from public view (parking is at your own risk, of course). There is a cabin atop Pot Head that belongs to the owners. Please be mindful of their privacy when visiting the site.
Strong Machias River currents flow at low tide. Camping is permitted near the landing area by the rock at the base of Pot Head.
