Description

Unnamed on the charts, Nutter Cove Island is the middle of the three small islands to the north of Huckins Point, which separates Nutter Cove from Morrison Cove. With a number of small islands in the vicinity it is easy to confuse one island for another, so be sure you are on the nearest island directly to the south of Huckins Island. Access is limited at low tide so plan your arrival and departure accordingly.

The east side of the island offers landing options on either firm mud or seaweed covered ledges. A grassy shelf separates the intertidal and forested upland zones. The interior of the island consists mostly of a spruce grove with a sparsely vegetated understory. There are a number of blowdowns and dead branches blanketing ground that may need to be scattered for tenting to occur.

With its relatively open and durable understory, Nutter Cove can reasonably accommodate several tents at one time. Dry rocks around the perimeter of the island are scarce, so most activity will need to occur in the upland or intertidal areas. Please be mindful of the soft bank when ascending and descending the island as foot traffic could easily lead to shoreline erosion.
