Description

If your goal is to camp on a small island surrounded by sheltered waters in a remote setting, then look no further than Inner Harbor Island. Unnamed on the charts, this state-owned island has a history of local recreational use. Its location within Inner Harbor on the eastern shore of Deer Isle makes it a nice, quiet alternative to the sometimes busy Trail offerings in Merchant Row.

An old but still functional tent platform can be found perched on the southwest side where vegetation gives way to a gently sloping ledge. The platform is suitable for one decently sized tent. Please concentrate camping activity on the platform and not on the grassy area nearby which washes over during big tides and storms. Fires are allowed on the island below the high tide line. Please leave no trace of your fire, and dismantle any fire rings that you find on the island.

The best landing location is the small beach on the south side near the tent platform. The ledges surrounding the island provide several excellent spots for lounging and dining.
