Description

Brick Island has been a popular picnic and camping destination for generations. At just over three acres in size and fairly narrow, it is the largest and most visible island in Merrymeeting Bay. During the boating season the island is frequented by locals looking for summer island fun and by groups seeking a spacious and accommodating camping experience. Visitors are asked to be considerate of these traditional uses while enjoying Brick Island.

The island is also home to nesting eagles, which happily are common in the bay. To protect sensitive eagle chicks during the critical spring nesting season, visitors should give the nest a wide berth when passing by and avoid landing on Brick before July 1.

The interior of Brick Island is quite open as a result of years of heavy use. The island contains several flat and roomy camping areas with enough space to accommodate multiple tents. Sanctioned fire rings can be found at each campsite. Please limit the size of campfires and keep all fires contained to the pre-existing rings. Remember to extinguish fires completely and pack out all trash and solid human (and pet) waste when you leave the island.
